"The Dark Side of a Smily"

In my project Emoticons are the new emotions I analyse the visual identity that we use everyday to express emotions. Somehow we are building up imagery so as not to confront reality nor feelings that can hurt us. The generation that has been born with the Internet is more likely to suffer social displacement and find real relationships much harder than virtual ones.

The same way elder generations carried, in their pockets, images of saints and had sculptures of gods and godesses protecting their houses, nowadays we have virtual masks that protect us from every feeling (and person) that can hurt us.

"The dark side of a Smily" is a dark talisman to protect us from the reality behind any e-mail or virtual conversation.
