Sara Alonso
Aranda de Duero, Burgos, 1981. Lives and works in Glasgow, UK
Sara Alonso’s artistic practice exists at the intersection of the real and the dreamlike, constructing visual narratives from found imagery, photography and printmaking. Her work explores the ephemeral nature of time, where fragments of her own reality emerge and dissolve within landscapes of surreal atmosphere. In this atemporal yet everyday universe, each element inhabits its own symbolic space with intensity.
Living far from her country of origin instils in her work a sense of perpetual transit, a territory of indefinition that resonates with the words of Ijeoma Umebinyuo in Diaspora Blues:
So, here you are,
too foreign for home
and too foreign for here.
Never enough for both.
From this liminal position, her practice investigates the relationship between time, identity and the ethereal connections between disparate fragments of life. Through digital collages and visual assemblages, her images appear as vestiges of memory, suspended between temporal moments and forming an imaginary space where presence and absence intertwine in a subtle interplay of evocation and loss.
